A guide to traveling by Rail bus

a.   Service provided onboard

1.   Food services

Sales of food, drinks and snacks:

Passengers can refer to the dining car (in case of existence) and obtain food, hot and cold drinks, and snacks depending on the time of the journey. The dining car is ready to serve passengers from the time of departure until 23:00 and from 7:00 AM through the end of journey.

The menus and food items provided and their prices are all supervised authorized by RAJA. The menus are available at the dining car (in case of existence). Passengers are requested to receive their receipt after placing their order with the restaurant staff.

 

Drinking water:

There is a partially frozen 500 CC water bottle on the seat for each passenger. In case passengers need more water, they can refer to the dining car or the carriage host and purchase chilled bottled water.

All the passengers boarding at layover stations would also receive a 500 CC bottle of water.

 

2.   Entertainment

Movies: films authorized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and RAJA would be shown during the journey in the carriages with screens.

 

Free bulletin:

A copy of widely circulated newspapers of the day is provided for each row of 4 seats on board of all coaches except on 96-seaters and 72-seaters every day except for holidays.

 

3.   Emergency medical services

There is a first aid cabinet in the dining car on all trains, which contains first aids including bandages, burn remedies and OTC medications. In case any such items are required, please refer to the dining car or ask your attendant.

If a case of medical emergency arises, please refer to the dining car and inform the attendant of the situation. If wheelchairs are required, you can obtain one at the dining car.

 

b.   Passenger car facilities and equipment

1.   Lavatories

There are two restrooms, one at either end of the carriages. One of the two is a western-style toilet on the coaches. Passengers can ask for portable western-style toilets on other types of trains.

Please beware that in order to maintain the convenience of those living in the vicinity of railway stations, lavatories would be locked by the train staff at the stops.

Liquid soap and toilet paper are provided inside the lavatories all along the route. If you found the containers empty please notify the attendants and ask for a refill.

There is a trash bin in all lavatories. For sanitary reasons, please do not flush down toilet papers or leave them in the washing basin.

If the toilet facilities are broken or there is no water in the lavatory, please inform the attendants of the issue, and use the restrooms in the next cars.

 

2.   Passenger cars

Facilities of the passenger cars include the following:

Air conditioning system/ heating system: rail buses, metro trains, and double-decked carriages are equipped with AC system. On other coaches only centrally- controlled heating systems are available and their air ducts are by the windows.

 

Luggage racks:

Passengers can place their large bags or suitcase in the racks over the windows, and put the smaller items under the seats.

 

Trash bin:

Please carefully follow the sanitary instructions and drop your litter in the trash bins inside the compartments.

 

c.   About the train officials

Conductor: the conductor has the highest executive position in the train. They are based in the car number one or in the dining car. The conductor goes to the compartments following the departure and controls the tickets. He is also in charge of the passengers’ comfort and safety all through the journey.

Purser: there is a purser on board each train. Passengers can recognize them by the ID badges they wear on their uniforms. Their responsibilities are as follows:

·        Monitoring the performance and quality of services provided by the attendants, cleaners, and restaurant staff during the journey

·        Attending to the possible issues and problems that passengers may face

 

Attendants: there is an attendant in each car. They are based at one end of the car, and can be recognized by their ID badges and uniforms. Their responsibilities are listed here:

·        Checking the passengers’ tickets at the time of boarding

·        Providing information about the departure point and destination and informing the passengers about the services provided during the journey

·        Notifying the passengers in the hall about the prayers stop

·        Attending to and following up the passengers’ needs or complaints in their respective car, cooperating and interacting with the purser, reporting the passengers’ requirements or any possible incidents to the purser

·        Seeing off the passengers at the destination and controlling lest they have not left any items of belongings behind; collecting the left and found items and delivering them to the lost and founds office

 

d.   General information about the trip

1.   Safety and security instructions

·        There are fire-extinguishing canisters on both ends of the cars for the emergency situations. Please do not touch them.

·        The emergency brake valve is in a box over the door between the compartment and the corridors. It can be used only in case of emergency. In compliance with the organizational regulations, cash penalties would be in place if the emergency brakes are activated without good reason.

·        For safety reasons remain clear of the car doors or sliding doors at all times.        

·        Touching the electric board in the car brings about serious death threat and is strictly forbidden.

·        For safety reasons, do not stick your head or hands out of the windows.

·        Do not throw trash, bottles or other objects out of the windows.

·        Do not attempt to get onto/off the train when it is starting to move.

·        Please fully observe principles of sanitation and particularly keep the lavatories clean for your own health as well as others’.

·        Recommend your companions (especially the minors) to keep record of the departure point, destination, number of the car and the compartment.

·        Do not accept food, drink or medications from strangers; do not inhale the perfume or spray their present as it may cause unconsciousness or intoxication.

·        Do not accept to change the strangers’ traveler’s checks.

·        Do not share or exchange your personal information (addresses, phone numbers, etc.) with strangers.

·        Avoid the windows while the train is passing the suburbs or rural areas (there might be stones thrown at the windows.)

·        Do not accept to keep strangers’ luggage or packages; do not leave your children or belongings with strangers.

·        Report any unlawful, immoral or suspicious conduct to conductor or the train police.

·        In case you have to leave your compartment for a reason (saying prayers, going to the dining car, etc.) try to take your valuables along or leave them with a known and trusted companion.

·        At the time of boarding, take careful note of the sign by the door of the corridor which shows the names of the departure town, the destination and the number of car and make sure the information corresponds the details on your ticket. Also notice the stickers showing seat numbers contained in the car so you could find yours.

·        The prayer stop is 20 minutes, which is announced through the PA system or by the train staff. In order to save time, please do the wash and other prayer requirement before the stop. Once returning to the train, check the number of your train lest you wouldn’t board onto the wrong one.

·        Smoking is prohibited in public places and on board public transport means by law. Do not smoke on the train.

·        Do not pour liquids into the air ducts beneath the windows as this would cause damages to them,

·        Observe the Islamic dress code and code of conduct all through the journey.

·        Have your ticket at ready for possible checking. Getting on board without a valid ticket is subject to a fine worth 1.5 times the ticket fare without being given a seat.

·        Collect and pack all your belongings prior to arrival at the destination. Watch your belongings carefully lest others wouldn’t pick them by mistake.

·        Watch for the minors and the elderly at the time of boarding and getting off.

·        Avoid running, gathering, or making noise on the train.

·        Try to save water while using the lavatories.

·        Trains are national properties. Please keep the facilities and equipment intact. In case of spotting individuals damaging them please inform the conductor.

·        Please keep the seat covers and curtains clean and intact. Do not remove them at stops or spread them on the floor of the compartment.

·        In case of incidents or unexpected events of prolonged stops, please be patient and try to calm fellow passengers down, and carefully listen to and follow the instructions given by the conductor or other train staff.

·        In case of leaving belongings on board by mistake or finding items, refer to the lost and founds office at the destination station or the nearest RAJA representation.

·        Passengers who intend to get off at stopovers are recommended to inform the attendant of their destination so to be notified ahead of arrival.

·        Passengers are under insurance coverage all through their journey. In case of injuries, please refer to the conductor so they could take the required measures.

 

 A guide to traveling by class 1 compartment passenger cars

On the Zanjan-Mashhad, Qazvin- Mashhad, Kashan-Mashhad, and Karaj- Tabriz routes which are longer, the passengers are given two complimentary bottles of water, one at the beginning and the other half-way through the journey.

Complimentary meal (on Karaj-Mashhad trains): if it is noted on the tickets and is scheduled on Karaj- Mashhad trains, passengers would be served breakfast or an evening snack (depending on the meal mentioned on the ticket and the fees charged by RAJA) after the departure in the form of packed meal or on the tray.

All the layover passengers would also enjoy the complimentary meal pm such trains.

2.   Entertainment:

Complimentary widely circulated newspapers are available in all compartments on all regular trains except regular trains of Ahvaz, Mashhad and Sari every day except for the holidays.

In order to keep the sleeping sets clean, please avoid spreading them on the floors or removing them from the train.

Luggage rack: passengers can place their large suitcases on the overhead rack and store the smaller items under the seats.

Bed seats: in the Danish compartments, passengers can pull the seats forth and join them into the form of a bed. In other types of class 2 compartments with beds, passengers are required to ask the attendants for the instructions related to opening and fixating the beds and safety belts and setting up the guard bars of the upper bunks.

Dining tray: there is a dining tray between the windows.

Trash bin: there is a trash bin under the beds or on the floor. Please discard your trash in the bins and do not leave it on the floor of the compartment. Kindly leave the trash bins outside the compartment door so they are emptied by the cleaning staff.
