In order to further cooperation with neighboring countries and to promote national and international tourism, RAJA has launched international trains on Tehran- Ankara and Tabriz- Van routes in cooperation with Turkish railways.

Tehran – Ankara train

The train goes through stations of Zanjan, Tabriz and Salmas (the only stations where passengers can board or get off) and reaches the railway border of Razi. Immigration officials would get on board at Salmas station in order to carry out the passport control and stamping formalities before reaching Razi border. Passengers would go through customs at Razi border point and then pass through the border and continue to Kapiköy train station in Turkey. Passengers would go through customs and passport control at this point and then head for Van. At Van pier, passengers would board onto ferry boats and sail over Lake Van for 5 hours before arriving at Tatvan pier. There they would change to class 1 compartment passenger cars and continue their journey.

The train passes Elazig, Malatya, Sivas, and Kayseri, to reach Ankara train station. The rail distance between Tehran and Ankara is 2399 km, and the whole journey takes about 60 hours.

Passengers’ seats on the Iranian and Turkish trains are marked using labels delivered at the departure port. Passengers must carefully notice the numbers given in order to avoid complications for themselves and for other passengers.
