Attendant

Based in the dining car; responsible for the followings:

Monitoring the performance of train officials including hostess, restaurant staff, service personnel

Cooperation with the conductor in attending to the passengers’ problems

Monitoring and management of services provided for the passengers in the carriage or the dining car

Controlling the quality and quantity of food, drinks and snacks

Providing basic medical emergency help where there is no physician on board

 

Hostess

Based in the service compartment; they refer to passenger compartments and are responsible for the followings:

Checking passengers’ tickets at boarding time and banning people without tickets or illegal or unacceptable luggage

Notifying the passengers prior to ticket control procedure by the conductor

Informing the passengers of the facilities inside the compartments and how them

Serving complimentary bottled water for the passengers

Informing the passengers about the food and drink services, taking orders for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, snacks and providing receipts upon the request of passengers

Announcing the prayer stop and length of halt

Public announcement of arrival at the destination

Delivering and collecting sleep material in accordance with the travel schedule

Reporting emergencies and medical issues of passengers to the purser or the conductor

Reporting cleanliness issues and problems in the lavatories to the service personnel or the purser

Communicating the condition of AC system to the purser upon the request of passengers

Locking lavatories at stops near residential areas in trains without septic

 

Train physician

Based in the service compartment or the compartment inside the dining car (only in trains with physician); in charge of the followings:

Medical examinations for passengers during the journey

Attending to medical or rescue emergencies in case of requirement

Note: medical examinations are carried out free of charge; in case prescribed with medication, the passenger would pay for the prescribed items.

 

 

Responsibilities of technical staff of the train:

Technicians and brakemen:

Technicians are in charge of safety in the mechanical parts under the supervision of the conductor. Their main responsivities are the followings:

1.   Full inspection of the train prior to the departure and taking over the train after assuring the good condition of mechanical equipment (including the wheels, transporters, brake systems), and follow-ups for fixing the problems in case of existence

2.   Cooperation with the conductor and inspectors for brake tests prior to the departure; cooperation with repair personnel for quick conclusion of occasional minor repairs to prevent delay

3.   Checking the conditions as for the comfort, safety issues, and preventing breakdowns by conducting necessary minor fixes at layover stations, detachment of defective cars upon the approval of the conductor, timely communication of major issues to officials in charge of repair and maintenance

4.   Inspection of the train at stopovers and fixing reported issues under supervision of the conductor

5.   Preparing written report of the journey to the technical dispatch unit within maximum one hour after arrival at the destination, reporting problems that could not be fixed over the journey and following up for the fixation ahead of taking the train over

 

Electrical and air conditioning technicians:

1.   They are in charge of safety and comfort of the journey in the area of electrical equipment and AC systems under the supervision of the conductor

2.   Full inspection of the train at the point of departure and taking it over after ensuring the good condition of electrical and AC equipment; follow-ups to have the issues fixed in case

3.   Attempting to provide satisfactory services for the passengers regarding the lighting, charging of mobile phones and other personal equipment, maintaining the comfort level of temperature by constantly controlling electrical and AC equipment during the journey, making necessary adjustments

4.   Fixing monitored issues and over the journey or at the stopovers under the supervision of the conductor, and timely communication of problems to the repair and maintenance technicians 

5.   Switching electronic and AC equipment off following the evacuation of passengers at the destination and compiling written reports of the journey to the electrical dispatch unit within maximum one hour after the arrival time, notifying those in charge of the issues that couldn’t have been fixed over the journey, following up with the repair of problems before taking the train over for the return

 

Motorists:

1.   Motorists are in charge of power generating cars under the supervision the conductor. They are mainly in charge of what follows:

2.   Full inspection of the power generating car prior to the departure and taking it over after assuring the good condition of the equipment (including the diesel generator, generator, electrical enclosures and containers), and follow-ups for fixing the observed problems

3.   Attempting to provide satisfactory services for the passengers regarding the lighting and ventilation (delivering required power to electronic and AC technicians) by constantly controlling the power generating car during the journey, making necessary adjustments

4.   Inspection of the train during the journey  at stopovers, fixing reported issues under supervision of the conductor, and reporting issues to the repair and maintenance technicians (problems with wheels and brakes would be reported to the conductor and technical officers)

5.   Preparing written report of the journey to the technical dispatch unit within maximum one hour after arrival at the destination, reporting problems that could not be fixed over the journey and following up for the fixation ahead of taking the train over

6.   Follow-up of the maintenance and repair issues and occasional repairs prior to the departure, switching the generator on, changing the motor oil, checking the  cooling liquids, ensuring the application of antifreeze, fixing oil and gas leaks, cleaning of the generator, replacing defective fuses and sensors in cooperation with the repair and maintenance unit

 

Technicians of the steam generator and heating system:

1.   They are in charge of safety and heating of the train under the supervision of the conductor. Their main area of responsibility is mentioned here:

2.   Full inspection of the power generating car prior to the departure and taking it over after assuring the good condition of the equipment (including the diesel generator, generator, electrical enclosures and containers, boilers, pressure control equipment, wheels, transporters, brake systems), and follow-ups for fixing the observed problems

3.   Attaching the electronic system of the steam generator and balance air ducts to the locomotive, and switching the steam generator on immediately after the locomotive is placed on the boarding platform

4.   Attempting to provide satisfactory services for the passengers regarding heating needs by constantly controlling the power generating car during the journey, making necessary adjustments

5.   Inspection of the train during the journey at stopovers, fixing reported issues under supervision of the conductor, and reporting issues to the repair and maintenance technicians

6.   Preparing written report of the journey to the technical dispatch unit within maximum one hour after arrival at the destination, reporting problems that could not be fixed over the journey and following up for the fixation ahead of taking the train over

7.   Follow-up of the maintenance and repair issues and occasional repairs prior to the departure, switching the steam generator on, changing the motor oil, checking the  cooling liquids, ensuring the application of antifreeze, assuring the sufficient level of water in the tanks and loading them in case of requirement, fixing oil and gas leaks, cleaning of the steam generator in cooperation with the repair and maintenance unit
